Adolph, Alan R. of Lexington, March 28, 2022, age 90. Beloved Husband of 65 years to Ellen (Robertie) Adolph, father of Elizabeth W. Reilly of Philadelphia, PA, Peter D. Adolph and his wife Barbara of Winchester, and Edward S. Adolph and his wife Cheryl of Medfield. Brother of Alyce Bernstein and her husband Paul of Delray Beach FL. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Christopher, Tajudeen, Matthew, David, Cameron, Evan, and Nathan.
Alan was an accomplished neurophysiologist where he specialized in retinal transplants and optic nerve regeneration at the Schepens Eye Research Institute in Boston. He also was an adjunct associate professor of physiology at Boston University School of Medicine, an assistant professor in ophthalmology at Harvard University School of Medicine, and a visiting scholar at Harvard University Department of Molecular Cellular Biology, and held multiple fellowships. He attended Brooklyn Technical High School, Rensselaer Polytechnical Institute (BEE), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (SMEE), and Rockefeller Institute (Ph.D.). Alan had many civic activities, honors, hobbies, and enjoyments during his life but his greatest and most enduring love was to his devoted wife, Ellen.
Calling hours will be held Saturday April 2 nd at the Douglas Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Rd. Lexington from 3pm to 6pm. A memorial service will also be held at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to Follen Church, 755 Mass Ave Lexington, MA 02420. Private interment at Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody.
