ALBERT MARTIN HEYMAN

February 8, 1939 – September 12, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Albert Martin Heyman, age 85, of Bedford, MA on September 12, 2024. He was the son of Sam and Leah Heyman and is survived by his wife, Mary Regina Heyman, his brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Berna Heyman of Williamsburg, Virginia, his sister and brother-in law Evelyn and Dan Silber of Lexington, MA, and many nieces and nephews.  His older brother and sister-in-law Charles and Renee both died several years ago.

Albert had a Bachelors' Degree in electrical engineering from Cornell and two Masters' Degrees from Northeastern, one in electrical engineering and one in engineering management. He specialized in power supplies and was awarded eight patents for his inventions.  The majority of his career was spent at Kollmorgen, Honeywell, Raytheon, and Digital.  He also worked at several other companies.

Albert was diagnosed with scleroderma forty-seven years ago and was told his life expectancy was five years, but he might be able to survive longer if he stayed active.  He played tennis and table tennis and was an avid swimmer, and enjoyed playing bridge and chess. In retirement, the Boston Sports Club in Lexington, the Senior Center in Bedford, and the Lexington Community Center were his homes away from home and he developed many friendships in all three places. Eventually, scleroderma caused long-term damage to his throat and at the end he became unable to swallow and to speak clearly enough to be heard.  Albert clearly marched to a different drummer, not caring about current conventions of behavior or clothing styles.  He never did anything half-heartedly; once he decided to do something, he always tried his best.     He was an independent soul, only agreeing to 24-hour care a few days before his death.

Family was one of the most important things in his life.  He was devoted to his wife Reggie and did all he could to help her through many challenges and illnesses during their more than 50 years of their marriage.
