Alice Josephine (Donovan) Walsh of Arlington, formerly of Somerville, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on February 13, 2021. She was the beloved wife of the late Michael Walsh, who died in 1985.

Alice, known as Allie to her family, was born on September 29, 1932. She was the youngest daughter of Mary E. (Griffin) and Edward J. Donovan.

Allie graduated from St. Joseph's High School in Somerville, where she participated in the drill team and served as class secretary.  She worked as a stenographer at H.P. Welch Co. in Somerville.  She enjoyed the weekly Irish dances in Dudley Square, where she met her husband, Michael (Mickey) Walsh.

After moving to Arlington in 1967, she became an active volunteer at St. Camillus Parish where she taught CCD, was a member of Sodality, the Altar Society, the Social Committee, and the Pro-life Ministry.  She later became the parish secretary, a job she enjoyed until her retirement in 2002.

Allie spent summers at White Horse Beach in Plymouth. Cousins, friends, and grandchildren all loved visiting the "Cottage" where she would take breakfast requests from all visitors. She always made sure everyone had enough to eat and a good cup of tea.

Later in life, she loved to travel. She enjoyed trips to Ireland, Canada, California, Texas, up and down the east coast, and throughout New England, as well as annual trips to New York City and Walt Disney World.

Birthdays were very special to Allie. She liked to celebrate them on the exact date. She had a phenomenal memory for remembering birthdays and was famous for sending cards, gifts, or baked goods to family, friends, and relatives near and far in honor of their special day.

Allie loved being a mother and often said her children were her trophies ~ her greatest accomplishment.  She loved spending time with each of her 7 children, her 10 grandchildren, and her 7 great-grandchildren.  She was always the happiest when everyone was around.

She leaves behind her 7 children Mary Eileen Walsh of Arlington, Edward M. Walsh and his wife Ellen of Plymouth, Michael Walsh, Jr. and his wife Katherine of Arlington, Patricia M. Walsh of Arlington, Jacqueline M. Meehan and her husband Kurt of Concord, Thomas A. Walsh and his wife Kara of Plymouth, and Daniel J. Walsh and his wife Gillian Kirsch of Providence.

She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Kimberly Matarazzo and her husband Tony, Kelly Edwards and her husband Mike, Michael Walsh, Edward Walsh, Jr. and his wife Kristin, Patrick  Walsh, William Meehan, Thomas Meehan, Donovan Meehan, Bailey Walsh, Reagan Walsh; and her great-grandchildren, Joey and Keira Edwards, Alyssa and Ellie Matarazzo, and Noah, Maeve, and Emily Josephine Walsh. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Allie was the sister of the late Mary Haggerty and the late Margaret Walsh, sister-in-law of Helen McCarthy of Dorchester, Mary Driscoll of Milton, the late Richard Walsh, the late Edward Walsh, and the late Joseph Haggerty.

Visiting Hours at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Road, Lexington, on Wednesday, February 17 ^th from 4-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Camillus Church, Arlington, on Thursday, February 18 ^th at 10 o'clock. Internment at Manomet Cemetery, State Road, Plymouth.
