Dr. Allan Shepp of Waltham, MA passed away peacefully on January 29, 2021 at the age of 92 at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, MA
Allan was born on April 2, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY to Eva (Kaplan) Shepp and Joseph Shepp.
Mr. Shepp enjoyed a long and distinguished career in the photographic sciences where he published many scientific papers and authored numerous patents.
Allan received his undergraduate degree at Oberlin College, his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Cornell University in 1953 and completed post-doctoral work at Cornell University and at the National Research Council of Canada. From 1955 to 1970 he was Director at the R&D firm Technical Operations Inc., Boston, MA, where he worked on Government programs involving radio-active light sources, high-quality photographic and polymer imaging systems. From 1970 to 1985 he worked at the Polaroid Corporation as a Senior Manager. From 1985 to 1992, Dr. Shepp was Director of Laser Technology Marketing at the Avco Everett Research Laboratory, now a Division of Textron Defense Systems, Inc. In 1992 Dr. Shepp co-founded Triton Systems, Inc. where he was vice president until his retirement in 2018?
Allan enjoyed music and was an active member and singer in classical and popular choral and piano music groups. Allan also loved tennis and continued playing into his later years. Allan is remembered by his family, and many friends and colleagues as wise, funny, intelligent, kind and thoughtful. He always had to time to spare to talk with younger engineers and scientists and offer advice on the sciences, career paths, education, and many other aspects of life.
Mr. Shepp is survived by his son, Russell Gray Shepp, his wife Hong Shepp, and their son Alexander Joseph Shepp, and his daughter Susan Anderson Shepp. Allan is predeceased by his loving wife, Marion Gray Shepp who passed away in 2016 and his loving brothers Murray and Lewis Shepp.
Due to current health restrictions, a private burial service will be held Saturday February 6 at Westview Cemetery in Lexington at 10am. Although the service is private, friends may joint the graveside service by connecting to the following link:
The funeral service will be hosted online by Follen Church, Unitarian Universalist using Zoom meeting services on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 2:00 pm. At https://follen.org/
