Gorczyca, Anita M., 90, of Lexington, Massachusetts passed away peacefully May 2, 2022 surrounded by family.  She was born in Waltham, Massachusetts to Thomas and Anne Ward.  Anita was a distinguished student earning academic scholarships to Notre Dame Academy and Emmanuel College.  She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years Tadeusz "Ted" Gorczyca and her sister Elizabeth.  She and Ted met while in college and were married in 1957.   Ted's service in the Air Force gave them the opportunity to live and travel in the US and abroad before settling in Wollaston where they raised seven children and then moved to Lexington.  She worked for many years as a substitute teacher and at one time seemed to know every kid in the Quincy Public Schools.  She was peaceful, friendly, nurturing, and humorous, and left a positive impact on everyone she knew.  She was active in the Catholic Church as Eucharistic Minister, Lector and CCD teacher.  She loved spending time with family and friends, especially on Cape Cod, reading, organic gardening, swimming and sharing in the personal and educational growth of each member of her extended family.  Anita's lifelong intellectual curiosity and integrity were truly inspirational.

She leaves behind her children Carolyn Gorczyca and husband Peter Thürlimann of St. Gallen, Switzerland, Marya Gorczyca and husband Tahar ElKorchi of Newton, Thomas Gorczyca and wife Jade Gao of Kalamazoo, MI, John Gorczyca and wife Maria of Pittsford, NY, Anne Gorczyca and husband Richard Hargreaves of Needham, Paul Gorczyca of NYC, and Kathryn Gorczyca of Reading.  She also leaves her beloved sister Marjorie Callahan of Falmouth, grandchildren Andreas and Christina Thürlimann, Miriam and Youssef ElKorchi, Keenan and Conor Gorczyca, Michael, Mia and William Gorczyca, Emily and Maxwell Hargreaves, Luke and Adam Chase, great grandson Jackson Gorczyca, and numerous nieces and nephews.  Anita cherished her strong network of friends from Emmanuel College and from the Lexington Senior Center where she regularly enjoyed various exercise classes and O.W.L.L. Courses.

A Memorial Mass will be held for family and friends at St. Brigid Church, Lexington on May 14 at 9 am.  In lieu of flowers, please give flowers to a loved one.  Donations in her honor may be made to the Emmanuel College Scholarship Fund. Private interment Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
