-- Anne K. Frederick, retired dean of Mount Ida Junior College (now Mount Ida College) and a long-time resident of Arlington, died Monday at Carlton-Willard Village in Bedford, where she had lived since 2003. She was 95.

Known as Nan to her friends and family, Miss Frederick was born in Boston in 1915. She lived in Allston during her early years and graduated from Allston High School in 1933. She then attended Simmons College, where she majored in home economics, graduating in 1938.

After college, she relocated to Bedford, N.H. and began a teaching career. But she returned to Massachusetts a year later and settled in Arlington, where her parents had moved. She worked at Harvard University before embarking on a retail career, working in Boston for Filene's and Gilchrist's department stores.

As a result of that retail experience, Miss Frederick developed an interest in teaching retailing, and she was hired to teach that subject at Mount Ida Junior College in Newton in the early 1950s. After earning a master's degree at Simmons in 1962, she was named to a series of higher positions at Mount Ida, finally retiring in the late 1970s as dean of the college.

Miss Frederick never married. She is survived by two nephews: Arthur W. Frederick of Palm Harbor, Fla.; and Bruce R. Frederick of Burlington, Mass.

A private burial service is planned for Saturday at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, at Carlton-Willard Village, 100 Old Billerica Rd. Bedford, MA 01730.
