Arthur Leslie Lindsay April 25, 1931- November 3, 2022 Arthur Leslie Lindsay passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness at Winchester Hospital in Winchester MA. the evening of November 3rd. Our family is so grateful for the wonderful care and compassion he received at Winchester Hospital. Arthur was born in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts and was raised in Roxbury, MA. Arthur was a longtime resident of Lexington MA., and resided in the same home for over 64 years. He also enjoyed their home overlooking the ocean near the Nubble Lighthouse in York Beach, Maine for many years. He is predeceased by his parents, Archibald Leslie Lindsay and Ruth Dorothy Lindsay (Anderson). He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 65 years Shirley Jean Lindsay (Colgan) of Lexington, MA. and his two children, daughter Susan Jean Lindsay of Arlington, MA. and son Scott Arthur Lindsay and his wife Karen Morgan of Cumberland, Maine. Arthur, "Pa" is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Axel Morgan Lindsay, Sabra Ellen Lindsay and Mac Thomas Lindsay also of Cumberland , Maine, he was always eager to learn of their adventures. Arthur also leaves behind close family friend Catherine Jane Lord of Winchester MA. whom he claimed as his "adopted daughter". He was predeceased by his brothers, Norman Sterling Lindsay and wife Elizabeth Ann Lindsay, (Starkey) of New Hampshire, and Lloyd Anderson Lindsay and his wife Dean Melchior Lindsay, (Knobel) of Connecticut and New Hampshire. Arthur is survived by his dear sister Regina Christine Raeke (Lindsay) of Portland, Oregon, and joins his dear late brother in law John Raeke. Arthur leaves behind many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, wonderful neighbors and acquaintances. He enjoyed meeting people and sharing conversations. Arthur graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School in Roxbury in 1949. He was employed at the Boston Public Library Athenaeum and at the Saint Paul's Cathedral in Boston where he was an active member in his younger years. Arthur worked as a Compositor/Printer for the Christian Science Publishing Society in Boston for over 37 years. He was a dedicated and active member of the Boston Typographical Union No.13 and served on the Executive Board and the Board of Trustees. Arthur loved taking long walks, spending time in the woods or at the ocean and being creative in his wood shop. A true Bostonian, Arthur was a lifelong sports fan of all of the New England teams, especially his beloved Red Sox. He was an avid reader and followed the news media and always supported the printers. He had a vast knowledge of history and shared wonderful stories about growing up and working in Boston. He was devoted, caring, humorous, loyal, always helpful, and kind, to his family and friends, and to everyone he met. He is deeply missed and he will be forever in our hearts. The family plans a memorial service at the Church of Our Redeemer in Lexington on June 18, 2023 at 11:30 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life gathering at the Cafe Escadrille in Burlington.
