Obituary

WARREN, A. Carlton Of Lexington, MA resident for 62 years, died February 19, 2011 at the age of 102. He was predeceased by his cherished wife of 60 years, Alice B. (Harmon) Warren. He is survived by his children, Nancy E. Stevenson of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, Arthur M. Warren of Camden, Maine, David C. Warren of Littleton, New Hampshire, Alice (Sally) Dwyer and husband Steve of Abington, Massachusetts, and Jonathan B. Warren and wife Chris of Tampa, Florida; and by 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by his beloved second wife of 12 years, Ellen (Greeley) Bryant of Lexington, her children, Meg, Beth and George, and her 3 grandchildren. Carlton was born Dec. 1, 1908 in Chelmsford, Massaschusetts, the youngest of 5 children of Arthur Mellen Warren and Mabel Parkhurst (Emerson) Warren. He graduated from Pasadena, California Jr. College, and University of Maine in 1931. He then began a long career as a science teacher, first at Foxcroft Academy in Maine, and later retired as Chairman of the Science Department at Brookline, Massachusetts High School where he taught for 30 years. An accomplished pianist, gardener and naturalist, he conducted his life with dignity, humility, gentle wit and selfless devotion to his family. Burial will be private. A memorial service at the First Parish Church in Lexington will be announced at a later date. Donations may be made to the Massachusetts Audubon Society.
