Barbara Leigh (Farnham) Spears, 104, of York, ME, died peacefully at home on November 25,
2024. She was born in Somerville, MA, on July 9, 1920, to Leigh and Maude Farnham. A
resident of Lexington, MA, for most of her life, Barbara attended Lexington public schools,
graduating from Lexington High School in the Class of 1938. She raised her children before
beginning her career in banking, where she held many positions (bank manager, personnel
director, loan officer) for over two decades at local banks, including Lexington Trust, Shawmut
Bank and Belmont Savings Bank.
Barbara was predeceased by her loving husband, Earl, her brothers, Walter, Bob and Duke, and
her sons, Barry and Robert [Joan]. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Sandra [the late
John E. Deloury], her four grandchildren (to whom she was "Nana"), Deanna [Scott], David
[Christine], Eric and Ashleigh, her eight great-grandchildren (to whom she was "Nana II"),
Michael, Shane, Joshua [Lin Lin], Adam [Katrina], Andrew, Brianna [Andrew], Amanda and Trey,
and her three great-great-grandchildren (to whom she was "Nana III"), Edwin, Nolan and Logan.
Barbara cherished her times at family gatherings with loved ones and friends. They delighted
in her sweet and kind presence, with a laugh that spread joy to everyone around her. A lifelong
Red Sox fan, Barbara waited 84 years to see her beloved team win the World Series. She was a
longtime member of The First Baptist Church in Lexington, until she moved to York, ME, and
Naples, FL, to live with her daughter, Sandra, and son-in-law, the late John E. Deloury.
A private family service of loving remembrance is being held this month at Douglass Funeral
Home in Lexington. Donations in Barbara's memory can be made to a charity of your choice.
