Barbara Angie (Sturtevant) Yakutis, of Lexington MA, passed away
peacefully at Carleton-Willard Village on Monday, November 29th. She
was 90 years old, and had struggled with Alzheimer's disease for some
years. Barbara grew up in Lynn, MA and attended Gould Academy in
Bethel, ME. After high school, she earned a two-year degree from the
Chandler School for Women in Boston and was employed at Harvard
University, where she met her future husband, Anthony Yakutis. They
were married for 58 years, he passed in 2006. Barbara loved
literature and was an avid reader. She was also fond of cats, and she
collected antiques -- particularly dolls, dollhouses and toys.
Barbara worked as a Medical Secretary and subsequently as the Office
Manager at Lexington Surgeons. While working fulltime, she completed
a Bachelor's degree in English, graduating Summa Cum Laude from
Northeastern University in 1987. She leaves behind three children
(Susan, Peter and Steven) and five grandchildren (Lauren, William,
Sokra, Mey and Ian). Her daughter, Gabrielle Farnsworth, pre-deceased
her in 2007. A wake will be held at the Douglass Funeral Home on
Sunday, December 12th, from 2:00 to 5:00pm. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to the Massachusetts Chapter of the Alzheimer's
Association.
