SAMPSON, Barry E. – Of Lexington, MA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, May 25, 2021.

Barry was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, a retired UPS driver, and was recently recognized for 50 years of service as an elected Lexington Town Meeting Member. He was a proponent of Shop Local and buy Made in USA, and faithfully loved this country.  Barry was a spitfire of a man who knew his own mind from a young age. He was hardworking, loyal, and had a mischievous sense of humor.  Barry enjoyed gardening, camping in the White Mountains of NH, listening to his scanner, cheering for his grandchildren at various events, and spending time with friends and family.  As a train enthusiast, Barry rode hundreds of miles of rails; helped lay narrow gauge track in Bedford, MA; and was recently working on a new n-scale model train layout.  His passion for Alaska never wavered; and when life physically slowed him down, he enjoyed trivia, playing horseshoes, car rides touring the neighborhoods of Lexington, reading magazines, looking at maps, and watching MASH, Gunsmoke, Railroad Alaska, Andy Griffith, Blue Bloods, and many train videos.

Barry was adored by his family.  Born on May 10, 1945, he was the son of the late Minot and late Lucille (Batchelder) Sampson.  For 54 years he was the devoted husband of Carol (McCarthy). He was the beloved father of daughters Deborah and her husband James Barry, Jr. of Chelmsford; Rebecca and her ex-husband Stephen Rice of Chelmsford, and Jennifer Sampson of Hudson, NH.  He was the cherished grandfather of Jennifer (Barry) and her husband Tyler Sicely, James Barry, III, John Barry, Trevor Rice, Julianna Barry; and Courtney Rice all of Chelmsford.  He was the adored great-grandfather of Ryder and Aurora Sicely. He was the dear brother of Cindy and her husband Douglas Baker of Rye, NH; and Linda Sampson of Bethel, VT.  Barry is also survived by his sister-in-law Marie (Anderson) McCarthy of Stuart, FL; an uncle, Al Robinson of Lacolle, Quebec; several cousins, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service at Sacred Heart Parish, 16 Follen Rd, Lexington, on Saturday, June 19 ^th at 10:00am.  Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.  An area with safe-distance seating will be available in the worship space.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Hydrocephalus Association (hydroassoc.org) or to plant memorial trees in Barry's memory at White Mountains National Forest through A Living Tribute (alivingtribute.org).
