Carol Ann Galehouse

February 28, 1940 – May 4, 2023

East Walpole, MA

Carol Ann Galehouse, a loving daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great aunt, friend and compassionate nurse, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2023 at the age of 83. Carol was born on February 28, 1940 in Barberton, Ohio to the late John Frederick and Gertrude Galehouse.

Carol graduated from Alliance High School in Ohio and went on to study nursing at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. After graduating and becoming a registered nurse, Carol cared for patients in Wilmington and later at a public health agency in Richmond, Virginia. In 1971, she joined the SS Hope hospital ship—traveling to Jamaica for a year where she delivered care to the most vulnerable citizens in Kingston, Jamaica.

After Carol disembarked from the SS Hope, she worked at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston for 33 years. She was a head nurse on Lahey 5 for many years, later transitioning to the Endoscopy Unit. Carol was a skilled and compassionate nurse who was known for her innate ability to connect to her patients—making a positive impact on their lives. She generously spent time providing nursing care to her parents, brothers, sisters, members of her local community, and close friends.

A passionate vocalist and pianist, Carol was an active member of the Dedham Choral Society for four decades. In addition to the DCS' two annual concerts, she traveled with the chorus to China and Rome and made lifelong friends.

Carol was fiercely independent. She enjoyed listening to music, gardening, cooking, reading, traveling, and spending time with her extended family. She especially loved puzzles! She will be remembered for her spicy tomato soup, her dilly dip, her beautiful flower arrangements for the family Thanksgiving celebration, and her love of poker and canasta. Her legacy of compassion and dedication to healthcare will live on through the patients she cared for, the colleagues she mentored, and in her grandniece and nephew who she inspired to pursue careers in the nursing profession.

Carol was predeceased by her parents, Frederick and Gertrude, her brothers James and Lawrence Galehouse, and her sisters Norma Stanton and Marilyn Brosmer. She is survived by her older brother Richard (Mary Anne) Galehouse, her sister-in-law Norma Galehouse, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and lifelong friends.

Join the family for visitation at 9 AM on Saturday, May 20, followed by mass at 10 AM, at Sacred Heart Church, 16 Follen Rd., Lexington, MA. Burial at Westview Cemetery in Lexington, MA.
