Coons, Charles C., of Lexington passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 after a 12-month battle with esophageal cancer. He was 67 years old.  Cherished son of Charles W. and Mary C. Coons of Schenectady, New York. Beloved husband of Julie (Brennan) Coons. Loving father of Elizabeth M. Coons of Lexington.  Devoted brother of Kenneth Coons and his wife Kristen of Hubbardston, MA, and Elizabeth Townsend and her husband Wayne of Hingham, MA.

Charles and his twin brother Ken were born on August 30, 1955, in Schenectady, New York.  As a young child, he moved with his family to Syracuse where he was raised.  He spent his youth skiing in the winter and attending summer camps in the Adirondack Mountains in the summer.  He attended Rochester Institute of Technology, graduating in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting.  After graduation, he continued his studies and became a Certified Public Accountant.  In 1984, he embarked on a 38 year-long career with the U.S. Treasury Department. He loved his job immensely and never wanted to retire through his very last days.

Charlie was an avid Patriots fan and loved to watch the games on the weekends and then follow the analysis all week.  He was an animal lover and would reminisce about life growing up with his three Dobermans, Juno, Titan and Ziggy.  His favorite animal later in life was his Ragdoll cat, Bella, who he and his wife, Julie got for their daughter, Elizabeth for Christmas when she was 4 years old. Bella would follow Charlie around the house. He began practicing Uechi-Ryu karate in his free time, soon after enrolling his daughter in classes and went on to earn his second degree black belt. He enjoyed meticulously caring for his yard and cars in his free time, just like his father had done.

He found great joy in being an active member of the Church of Our Redeemer in Lexington for over 25 years. He enjoyed facilitating the Liturgy Team for over ten years as well as being on the vestry. He played an instrumental role in encouraging the church's youth to participate in services after involving his daughter, Elizabeth in readings weekly, from a young age. He graduated from the Episcopal Church's worldwide Education for Ministry (EfM) four-year theological program in 2019.

Charlie was proud of his daughter as she moved to Charleston, South Carolina, to attend the College of Charleston. He enjoyed visiting and exploring the Charleston area with her. When she went off to study abroad in Florence, Italy in the fall of 2018, he was eager to visit and share Europe with her.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 3 ^rd at the Church of Our Redeemer, 6 Meriam St., Lexington at 10:30 am.  Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.  Interment at Westview Cemetery, Lexington, with reception to follow.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Charlie to the American Cancer Society.­­­­­­­­
