Constance Hadley Bachman was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 19, 1927 on the day before Charles Lindbergh made history flying across the Atlantic.  Connie was the daughter of the late Thomas Erle Hadley and Arlene Cook Hadley.  She was a graduate of the Kingswood School for Girls, part of Cranbrook Foundation in Bloomfield Hills and Michigan State University (then Michigan State College), where she earned a B.A. in Art Education.  She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Fraternity for women. While at Michigan State she met her husband, Charles William Bachman II, who had just returned from serving in the Southwest Pacific Theater during World War II.  He was the son of Michigan StateUniversity'ss head football coach, Charlie Bachman.  The couple married on June 25, 1949 in Holly, Michigan.

Charlie's evolving engineering and computer science career led them to live in a variety of communities over the years, including:  Philadelphia, PA; Midland, MI; Stamford, CT; Paradise Valley, AZ; Tucson, AZ; and Lexington, MA (1970-1996 and 2006-present).  In 1983, Connie and son Jon helped Charlie to found Bachman Information Systems, Inc. which was subsequently listed on the NASDAQ.

Connie was a 60-year member of the P.E.O. International, a philanthropic organization that promotes women's education.  Additional charitable and volunteer activities included founding the cooperative Methodist nursery school in 1954 in Midland, MI; board member of Presbyterian Church Playschool in Stamford, CT; docent at the Phoenix Art Museum (1964-70), Arizona state representative on the U.S. Committee for UNICEF (1968-1970); docent at the Harvard Art Museums (1970-96); and volunteer with Lend-a-Hand at First Parish Unitarian Church in Lexington, MA (1970-96) and also as a volunteer at MGH.

In addition to her husband, of 62 years, she is survived by four children, Chandini Margaret Bachman of Washington, DC; Thomas Hadley Bachman and wife Suisan Mei Jian Fann Ho of Phoenix, AZ; Sara Bachman Ducey and husband Rick Ducey of Bethesda, MD; Jonathan Americ Bachman and wife Rebecca Driscoll of Lexington, MA.  Her five grandchildren are:  Diana Ducey Girard and husband Robert Girard, III of Gaithersburg, MD; Elizabeth Joslin Ducey of Rockville, MD; and Grace Helen Bachman, Louisa Cook Bachman and Jonathan Americ Bachman, junior, all of Lexington, MA.  She was preceded in death by her brother 1st Lt Thomas Erle Hadley, II, USAF, KIA Korea. Connie recently hosted a ceremony to accept return to the family of a long-lost Purple Heart Medal awarded to her brother, a Korean War hero, who later received the Distinguished Flying Cross and a second Purple Heart.

Connie passed away on May 30, 2012, at her residence in Lexington.  Interment will be in the Hadley family plot in Holly, Michigan.  A memorial service will be held on July 21st at Brookhaven At Lexington, 1010 Waltham St. in Lexington, Massachusetts at 2pm.
