KIMBALL, Cynthia Fifield of Lexington MA, age 73, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 7, 2019, surrounded by her family, after a short battle with colon cancer. She was the youngest of four daughters born to Frederick Milton Kimball and Rachel Revere Coolidge and grew up in Andover, MA. A childhood spent at North Haven's beaches in Maine and Andover's Rabbit Pond led to a lifelong passion for the natural world. Cynthia was a courageous adventurer who delighted in personal challenges, including Outward Bound, hiking in Alaska, sky diving in Hawaii, scuba diving in Curaçao, cultural exchanges in Transylvania, flower arranging classes in Japan, kayaking, running 5K races and earning two Master's degrees. She saw and celebrated beauty everywhere, whether in the daily miracles of child development, classical music or the extraordinary architecture of European cities, and most especially in the wild beauty of New Hampshire lakes and garden flowers. Her life's work was the education of children, especially those with physical, emotional, or cognitive special needs, working for years as an occupational therapist in Lexington. It was so important to her that all children feel worthy and loved.  In keeping with this, the role of mother and grandmother was a source of great joy and meaning throughout her life. She was also blessed to have created a rich trove of long and loyal friendships, while still delighting in meeting new people and making new friends. Cynthia was celebrated for her green thumb, and whenever she saw friends or family, she invariably brought along lovingly arranged flowers from her garden or vibrant vegetables she had grown herself. Cynthia is survived by her three children, Priscilla Merriam, Scott Merriam and Lillian Zwemer and five grandchildren, as well as three sisters, Rachel Kimball, Carolyn Tolles and her twin sister, Margaret Kimball. Friends and relatives are invited to a service at Follen Community Church on Saturday March 23rd at 10am, to be followed by interment at Bellevue Cemetery in Lawrence MA, concluding with a private reception. Visiting hours will be held Friday, March 22nd from 4pm to 7pm at The Douglass Funeral Home 51 Worthen Road.
