Obituary

FARRAR, David A. 89, resident of Lexington for more than 50 years, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Helen T. (May) for 26 years. Preceded in death by his first wife Barbara (Crosby) with whom he spent 38 wonderful years. Loving father of Jane Strigler and husband Robert of Ridgefield, CT, Ann Claeson and husband Kevin of Monroe, NC, and David L. Farrar of Greenfield. Stepfather to Stephen May of Merrimac, Thomas and Jerri May of Cortland Manor, NY, Brian and Jean May of Grayson, GA, and Elizabeth and Michael Dunn of Methuen. Also survived by 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Brother of Shirley Klein of Hudson, FL. Preceded in death by brother Wayne. Born in Athol, the son of the late Harold and Marion (Simpson) Farrar and a graduate of Athol H.S. At the age of 17, in 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy to serve his country during WWII. After discharge with the rank of Petty Officer First Class, he attended MIT. David enjoyed a diverse 38 year long and very fulfilling career with the Bell Telephone Systems, retiring in 1984. He lived his motto "To travel is to live," by traveling to every continent except Antarctica and enjoyed visiting 70 countries. Memorial Mass at St. Brigid's Church, 2001 Mass. Ave., Lexington on Saturday Dec. 27 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Farrar Family Scholarship Fund, Athol High School Scholarship, Assn., Box 338, Athol, MA 01331. Interment Westview Cemetery, Lexington.
