Dean H. Curtin, 84, A Life of Adventure and Impact

Dean H. Curtin, a lifelong resident of Lexington, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones.

Preceded in death by his parents, Daniel P. Curtin and Eleanor M. (Foley) Curtin, his sister Elaine Curtin, and brother-in-law John Penney, Dean's legacy is one of adventure, generosity, and unwavering support.

He is survived by his sister, Dianne Penney (Kip) of Gloucester, Massachusetts, and Naples, Florida; his children, Amy Griffin (husband Michael) of Chico, California, Tara Curtin (husband Carsten Hochmuth) of Lexington, and Owen Curtin (wife Elizabeth) of Lexington; his grandchildren Kallie Griffin Cobourn (husband Andrew Cobourn), Aisling Griffin, Ronan Curtin, and Mary Curtin; godson Matthew Penney; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved companion, Donna Bertolami.

A veteran of the 101st Airborne US Army, Dean served for three years as a Sergeant E5, stationed in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and Karlsruhe, Germany. His passion for the outdoors was boundless, and he found solace and adventure in the rugged beauty of New England. From rock climbing and skeet shooting to hunting, fly fishing, dirt biking, whitewater kayaking, snowmobiling, and downhill skiing, Dean embraced the thrill of the natural world.

A longtime real estate developer and business owner in Lexington and beyond, Dean instilled strong values of education and life experience in his children and grandchildren. He taught them to embrace challenges, conquer fears, and appreciate the beauty of nature. Known for his generosity and unwavering support, Dean went out of his way to help others, never asking for anything in return.

A celebration of Dean's life will be held for friends and family at The Inn at Hastings Park in Lexington on Saturday, October 19, from 1-3 p.m. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association.

Dean's life was a testament to the power of adventure and the unyielding human spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
