Obituary

FULLERTON (Porter) Ruth J. of Lexington, May 30, 1923 - January 14, 2022. Daughter of William B. and Jennie (Given) Porter.  Beloved wife of the late Denis J. Fullerton. Loving mother of three sons, Denis, Jr. and Karen (Winchester), Michael and Ann Marie (Waltham), Brian and LeEtta (Key West, FL). Sister of Nan Sickles (Arlington), the late May Baskin, Dorothy Duncan, Margaret Porter, William Porter, Helen Brown, and Jean McCarron. Ruth is also survived by three grateful and admiring grandsons, Sean (Stephanie), Michael, James, two spirited great grand-daughters, Alice Ruth, Annie Jean, and many nieces and nephews who she held close at heart.

Raised on the Porter Brothers and Wilson Farm, Ruth often recounted stories of a rich family life.  Graduate of LHS in 1941, her first employment was at John Hancock in Boston.  At 20 years of age, she enlisted to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII, achieving the rank of Sergeant.  With her return to her hometown of Lexington, she married and delighted in her role as a mother.  Ruth's welcoming spirit and acceptance of each person she met, expanded her community, endearing her to extended family members, neighbors, and friends throughout her life.  A lifelong lover and collector of books, Ruth later joined a book club and talking books program at Perkins School for the Blind.  A parishioner of St. Brigid's Church, Ruth's faith carried her gracefully through her final years within the community at Mount Vernon House in Winchester, where she admired and appreciated the generous staff and caregivers.

There is a private interment at Westview Cemetery, Lexington.  Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass and reception at St. Eulalia Church, 50 Ridge Street, Winchester to be held on Ruth's birthday, May 30, Memorial Day at 11 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Perkins School for the Blind (175 N Beacon St., Watertown, MA 02472) or to Mount Vernon House (110 Mt. Vernon St., Winchester, MA 01890).
