Winton, Derek Conor, age 22 years, passed away on September 9, 2016 at Elon University in Elon, NC. Raised in Lexington, Derek was the beloved son of David Winton and Julie Winton (Bishop), devoted brother of Mariel Winton and loving grandson of Connie Bishop(McDermott), the late Russell Bishop and the late Aurelia Winton(Nazario).

Derek was a senior at Elon University, studying Sport and Event Management. Derek was vice president of Sigma Pi fraternity, former President of the Teaching Fellows Program, a member of the Premier Sport and Event Society, and was a tutor for young children in the It Takes a Village Project. Derek also traveled to Costa Rica, while studying abroad, and enriching the lives of underprivileged children.
Derek loved working with children, and spent 9 years as a counselor at Concord Academy Summer Camp in Concord, MA, bringing endless smiles to the staff and campers alike.
Derek is also survived by his loving extended family of 7 uncles, 9 aunts, 20 cousins and a half brother.
Visiting hours will be Friday, September 16, 2016 from 5-8PM at Hancock United Church of Christ, 1912 Mass Ave., Lexington. A memorial service will be held at Hancock Church at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 17, 2016. Additional parking will be available at the First Parish Church, 7 Harrington Road.
