Desmond R. LaPlace (Dez) of Lake Forest, Illinois died on September 23rd, 2023, peacefully in his home at ninety-one years of age.

Desmond is predeceased by his wife Jeanne LaPlace, who was his devoted companion for 62 years. He is predeceased by his brother Fred and his sister Stephanie. He is an uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Desmond received his undergraduate and graduate degree from Harvard University where he was a member of ROTC. His vast collection of military autographs from WWII he amassed in his early teens gave him tremendous pleasure. Dez was delighted to share his wall of heroes to anyone who asked that had grown to several hundred letters, photos and artifacts.

Desmond retired as Vice Chairman of ACCO Brands in 1996. He received many honors and accolades during his long career and made so many lifelong friends. He was always remembered for his sense of humor and warmth. He had a wonderful ability to make everyone feel at ease in any situation.

Catholic Charities as an organization that he worked tirelessly with over the years in many capacities to help the less fortunate. The Rolls Royce and Bentley club saw him proudly partake in many car shows where he often walked away with first place with his Vintage Rolls.

When you hear the saying "man's best friend" think of Dez as he had such an unconditional love for all dogs that he had the pleasure to meet or have as a family pet. They were his beloved companions over the years and would bring him so much joy!

Visiting hour will be on October 7th from 9:00AM to 10AM at the Douglass Funeral Home 51 Worthen Road. Lexington, MA followed by a memorial service at 10AM at the funeral home. Interment Westview Cemetery, Bedford Street, Lexington MA
