HOSMER, Douglas W. "Doug" 91, of Exeter, New Hampshire, formerly of Newton, MA died on July 12, 2013 while in Dennisport on Cape Cod at his summer cottage. He passed away peacefully while resting on the beach that he loved following a swim in the ocean. Doug was born in June 29, 1922 in Springfield, MA, son of the late Paul and Thelma Hosmer. He graduated from Classical High School in 1940 and went on to earn a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Massachusetts. He served in the Army Horse Cavalry during World War II. Doug spent his entire career as an engineer and manager for Raytheon. He especially enjoyed swimming as well as golfing, fishing, playing cards, doing puzzles, and traveling. He was an avid, lifelong Red Sox fan. Funeral service will be held at Douglass Funeral Home (www.douglassfh.com), 51 Worthen Road, Lexington, MA on Wednesday, July 17th at 11:00 am with Father Robert Connors officiating. Burial will follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA at 2:45Pm. Visitation will be held at Douglass Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 16th from 4-7pm. Doug is survived by his wife Audrey W. Small and his children, Margaret Locke and her husband, Don of Gardner, MA; Joan DeBenedictis and her husband, Vincent, of Wakefield, MA; Martha Levine and her husband, Arthur, of Beverly, MA; and Kathy LaFleur and her husband, Rick of Agawam, MA. His daughter, Barbara Mullen, passed away in 2009 and is survived by her husband, David of Lexington, MA. Grandchildren include Paul DeBenedictis, Julie Cymore, Kevin Locke, Stephen DeBenedictis, Jeremy Levine, Anna Devers, Andrew DeBenedictis, Eileen Hosmer-Mullen, Daniel Levine, Gina Locke, and Caitlin Allen; great-grandchildren include Perry Cymore, Azami Cymore, Elizabeth DeBenedictis, Molly DeBenedictis, and Theo Lopez; and honorary stepchildren Janet Crane and Russell Small. He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Mary, and his brother, Brad.
