MAHONEY, Edward M. 80, of Lexington, MA passed away on Friday, March 22, 2019 from leukemia. He was born in Buffalo, NY and raised in Methuen, MA. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and a Master's Degree in Engineering Management from what is now known as the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. He spent a long career in federal civil service working as a systems engineer with NASA and the U.S. Air Force at Hanscom Air Force Base. He retired at age 57, which afforded him the opportunity to spend many years doing the things he enjoyed.
Ed was a generous individual with a zest for life, always smiling, boundless energy and an adventurous spirit. Above all, he put family first. A giving and caring man who was always there for others and had many friends. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends especially at his Cape Cod cottage. He also enjoyed participating in many sports including; hiking and camping and Saturday mornings with the Concord Runners.
He appreciated volunteerism and had been active in many organizations such as: Little League baseball, Boy Scouts and the Catholic church. Throughout his life, he valued education and was always eager to learn new things; taking Life Long Learning classes at Boston College and Harvard.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Barbara Mahoney of Lexington, MA and his children; Michael Mahoney, Karen Ringheiser, Kathleen Ciancarelli and her husband John, Timothy Mahoney and his wife Julie, and Christina Stephan and her husband Michael. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; Anna, Alden, Jacob, Christopher, Sarah, Nicholas, James, Natalie and Kaitlin and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at Douglass Funeral Home 51 Worthen Road. Lexington on Friday, March 29th from 4pm to 8pm. A funeral mass will take place on Saturday, March 30th at 10am at Saint Brigid's Parish, Lexington and burial at Westview Cemetery, Lexington
