Fobert, Ellen M. of Lexington, MA (née McCormick) passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 9, 2023. Born in Hartford, CT in February 1931, she grew up in Belmont, MA where she graduated from Belmont High. Ellen attended Jackson College (Tufts College) as an English major, where she met the love of her life and husband Dr. Rudolph J. Fobert during her freshman orientation. On their first date they went to hear the poet Robert Frost at Tufts Chapel. They settled in Lexington, MA where Rudy was superintendent of schools, raising six children and leading an active social life. After Rudy's untimely death from cancer Ellen returned to school at Antioch College for her M.Ed. She was then employed for over 19 years as a social worker at Emerson Hospital where she served as Coordinator of Bereavement Services for the Hospice Program, worked in maternity and on the North 5 Psychiatric Unit.

Ellen possessed a curious mind and intuitive social skills. She had a uniquely personal and unpretentious sense of aesthetics, which infused her surroundings. A gifted cook, she was known for her Friday night dinners where family members, their friends, and occasional guests, enjoyed lively conversation over lengthy meals. Ellen had an affinity for nature and the outdoors. She enjoyed running, hiking, camping and tennis and walking with her group of friends. An enthusiastic world traveler, she collected unusual rocks wherever she went as keepsakes.

Ellen's lived at Brookhaven in Lexington for over ten years where she enjoyed the company of many friends. She was assisted in her final years with skill, compassion, and genuine warmth by the staff and her aides.

Ellen leaves behind her daughters, Suze Fobert and partner Paul Driedger of Winchester, Linda Fobert and partner David Thorp of East Wareham, Carol Cheli of New York City, Betsy and Francis Krizmanich of Snowmass, CO, and sons, Mark and Nancy Fobert of Harvard, MA and their children Jonathan and Benjamin and Jonathan and Karen Fobert of Marblehead, MA and their four children Hannah, Luke, Leo and Jack.

Ellen is survived by her sister Ann McCormick of Jamaica Plain and Liz McCormick of Halesworth, England. She was predeceased by her husband Rudolph, her sister Jane McCormick of Belmont, her brothers John McCormick of Dunwich England and Thomas McCormick of Tampa, FL and her son-in-law Luigi Cheli.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a wake on Thursday, May 4th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Road, Lexington and a Celebration of Life Service followed by reception on Friday, May 5 ^th 11:00 a.m. at the First Parish Unitarian Church, 7 Harrington Road, Lexington. Private interment Westview Cemetery, Lexington.
