Frances Anne (Surette) Corkum, 92, passed away after a short illness on April 13. She was the beloved wife of the late Russell W. Corkum Sr. for 69 years. Long time resident of Lexington with summer residence in Pleasantville, Nova Scotia, and most recently of Youville Place.
Frances was the devoted mother of eight children, adored grandmother of nine and loving great grandmother of seven. She will always be in the hearts of her children, Joan Zeoli of Yarmouth and Fort Myers, William Corkum and his wife Ann of Concord, Susan Folger and her husband Stephen of Eastham, Robert Corkum and his wife Lynne of Stow, Brian Corkum of Swansea, and the late Diane Spuria, Russell Corkum Jr., and Daniel Corkum. Sister of William Surette, Jr., the late Walter Surette, Gertrude Doherty, Marie Barry, Edward Surette and Lillian Brown.
Frances is also survived by grandchildren, Richard, Tracy, Darin, Melissa, Michael, Sarah, Bethany, Lisa and Aimee and by great grandchildren, Dominic, Autumn, Luca, Elizabeth, Cameron, Caiden, Finnegan and by many nieces and nephews.
She was an active member of the St Brigid's Women's Club and Sodality, Lexington Arts and Crafts, where many of her oil, water and acrylic paintings have be displayed, and Officers Wives Club at Hanscom Field. Fran's hobbies also included knitting, baking, ceramics, dancing, bingo, gardening, card games and her love of shopping. She kept the tradition of a generations old recipe of Rappie Pie, a French Canadian dish, through family Christmas Eve celebrations.
Frances will be remembered for her strength, graciousness, kindness, patience and love of family especially babies.
Funeral from Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Rd. Lexington Monday April 24 at 9am followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Brigid Church, Lexington at 10am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.Visiting hours Sunday from 2pm to 6pm. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701. Interment Westview Cemetery, Lexington.
