Frank was born Francis Edward Armstrong in Medford, Massachusetts on May 26, 1930, the
son of Francis Henry Armstrong and Dorothy Thomson (Hawthorne) Armstrong. He attended
Arlington and Lexington schools, and graduated from Lexington High School in 1948. From
February 1952 to February 1954 he served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Heilbronn, Germany
for eighteen months during the Korean War.
On October 2, 1954 he married Marilyn Ellen Page of Arlington and was blessed with four
children, Gail Susan in 1956, Stephen Edward in 1958, Scott Alan in 1959, and Nancy Ellen in
1966. Frank and Marilyn were happily married for over 70 years.
Frank earned a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in Business Administration from
Northeastern University and worked in Sales and Marketing for New England Telephone and
Verizon for 35 years. After retiring in 1990, he returned to NYNEX (Verizon New York/New
England) and worked in the security division for three years. From age 16 to age 82 (66 years!)
Frank worked part-time at Michelson's Shoes in Lexington where he developed lifelong
friendships with colleagues and members of the local community.
A valued member of Lexington First Baptist Church for 58 years, he filled various administrative
roles, served on numerous committees, and was respected for his distinguished leadership and
faithful presence. Frank was a member of the Boston Baptist Social Union, Simon W. Robinson
Lodge (Lexington), Scottish Rite (Boston), and Aleppo Shrine (Wilmington).
He was predeceased by his daughter Gail (Custance) in October 2024, and is survived by his
wife Marilyn, sons Stephen of Palm Springs, CA and Scott (Faith) of Bedford, MA, daughter
Nancy (Bill) Gaw of Woburn, MA, son-in-law Steven Custance of Holderness, NH, eight
grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and family friends.
Calling hours and a Masonic Service will be held at Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Rd.,
Lexington on Friday, March 21 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, 1580 Mass. Ave.,Lexington on Saturday,
March 22 at 10:00 am. Graveside service and reception will follow.

Frank will be remembered for his often dry and quick wit, generosity of spirit, loyalty to his
community, faithfulness to his church and love of his family above all else.
