Carney, Francis (Frank) James of Lexington, May 23, 2021. Husband of Patricia J. (Moore). Born September 23, 1945 in Bristol, CT and raised in Somerville, MA and Lexington, MA. Son of the late Francis P. Carney and Joan L. (Goodman). Father of Sean D. and his wife Elizabeth A. of New Canaan, CT, and Niall M. and his wife Gretchen L. of West Roxbury, MA. Brother of Kevin P., Elizabeth M., Ruth A., Joan F., Patricia A., Carol A., and Paul F. as well as the late Margaret M. Frank is also survived by seven grandchildren: Tyler, Emma, Erin, Niall, Tad, Mark, and Thomas, and by many nieces and nephews.

Frank graduated from Lexington High School in 1963, where he met his future wife Patricia. Frank then graduated from Colby College in Waterville, ME in 1967, and Pat from nursing school that same year, and Frank and Pat were married on August 12, 1967 in Lexington, MA. They moved to New York City, where Frank attended Columbia Business School, graduating with an MBA in 1969. After graduation, Frank began his accomplished professional career at Xerox in Rochester, NY, but soon returned to academia, attending the University of Pennsylvania to obtain a Master's in Economics. In 1972, Frank and Pat, with infant Sean and newborn Niall, left for Dublin, Ireland for Frank to pursue his research and teaching career at Trinity College, Dublin.

Frank had a lifelong passion for Ireland. While at Trinity, he achieved the status of being a full Professor, and published numerous academic articles on Irish economic history. He developed friendships with numerous faculty members, including several noted Irish historians, that remained strong throughout his life. The family also traveled extensively throughout Ireland, returning many times for visits over the years.

Upon return to the US in 1977, Frank and Pat settled in Lexington, MA. Frank taught economics at Northeastern University, and then returned to the business world, initially in management consulting, but eventually was recruited as a Vice President into Moore Homes, which was run by Mark Moore, Jr., Frank's father-in-law. Known for its colonial style of building, Moore Homes developed many residential and commercial condominiums, as well as single family homes, in Lexington and the surrounding communities. Frank led all aspects of the business, and eventually helped sell part of the company to McAlpine & Partners. Frank and Pat ran the remaining company together until their retirement in 2010.

Frank extended his teaching skills into youth sports, and was well regarded as a coach for several ice hockey, Little League, and soccer teams in Lexington. He also developed a love for following the stock market and investing, as well as for running. In his later years, Frank loved following his grandchildren's sporting activities very much, frequently showing up at various squash courts, ice hockey rinks, and softball and baseball fields around Massachusetts to cheer.

Frank will be dearly missed by all those whose lives he touched.

Visiting hours will be Wednesday, May 26 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, and a funeral service will be held Thursday, May 27 at 10:00am at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Road, Lexington. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment Westview Cemetery, Lexington.
