NESLINE, Dr. Frederick William Jr. (Bill) 84, of Lexington MA and recently of Carlton Willard Village in Bedford MA, Dec. 30, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Mary (Hellstrom) Nesline, daughter Diane Nesline of Waltham, and sons Mark Nesline of Lexington (and his wife Susan) and Karl Nesline of Wilmington (and wife Rosemary) along with grandchildren Kevin, Dennis, Eva, and Eric. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland, son of the late Margaret Nicolaus, and oldest brother to the late Betty and Louis Nicolaus. Dr. Nesline was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II. Dr. Nesline was a strong proponent of continuing education. He graduated high school at 16, earned a B.S. degree from the University of Maryland, and a Masters of Engineering and Ph.D. degree from Yale University, as well as an MBA from Northeastern University. He was also an Assistant Professor at MIT. In 1994, he received the University of Maryland College of Engineering Centennial Medal. While at Raytheon Company, he chaired the Company's advanced degree program. Dr. Nesline had a long and distinguished career at the Raytheon Company. He was Director of Engineering for Raytheon's work on the Apollo Program in the 1960's. He published 72 technical papers on guidance, control and missile design. He taught courses in missile design in many countries. In 1986, Dr. Nesline was elected a Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). In 1991, he received the AIAA Mechanics & Control of Flight Award. In 1992, Dr. Nesline received the Thomas L. Phillips Award for Excellence in Technology from Raytheon Company. During his professional career he also founded and was President of Applied Analysis Inc. In retirement, he spent many hours contributing to the Veterans Association in Lexington and was honored for his efforts. He enjoyed world travel with his wife, spending time in the home and garden they designed and built, and playing with his grandchildren. A wake will be held on Tuesday January 3 from 4 to 8 pm at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Rd., LEXINGTON, MA. A funeral will be held on January 4 at 10 am at the Douglas Funeral Home.
