George Acton Burnell of Lexington, Massachusetts passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family November 3, 2021 at the age of 92. George was born on August 27, 1929 in Buffalo New York to Levi George and Alyce (Houghton) Burnell.  After growing up in Lexington, Massachusetts, he graduated from Lexington High School, and then went on to earn degrees from Boston University and the University of Akron. He served in the Air Force and had a long career in manufacturing and business. George served the Town of Lexington proudly for over forty years as a town meeting member, including serving on many town committees, and as a Selectman for two terms.  George served his community and pursued his consulting career passionately until the end of his life. He was an avid skier and sailor who loved to travel but especially loved spending time with his family, who are grateful to have had his love and support.

George had a loving forty-nine year partnership, including a 36 year marriage to his beloved wife, Mary Connors Burnell.  He was the loving father to four daughters, Susan Burnell and her husband Hans von Spakovsky of Vienna, Virginia, Alyce Burnell of Natick, Nancy Coughlin and her husband Timothy of Darien, Connecticut, and Barbara Coughlin and her husband Michael of Natick. He was also the proud grandfather to eleven grandchildren: Elisabeth, Christopher and Anna von Spakovsky; Aliza and Isabel Greenstein; Isadora, Matthew, Daniel and Carolan Coughlin; and Maggie and Jack Coughlin. He was also a loving brother to the late Robert Burnell of Jacksonville VT, and uncle to Gregory, Jennefer, Bjorn Burnell and their children, and brother to Judy Royce of Reading. He is also survived by his former wife, Claire Carolan Burnell of Natick.

Funeral service will be held Monday, November 8th at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Road Lexington at 1:00 pm. Visiting hours Sunday from 3:00 - 6:00pm. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
