WALLIS, Dr. George Age 92, a longtime resident of Lexington, passed away at home on October 26, 2014. Dr. Wallis was born in Austria and immigrated to the U.S. via England and Australia after World War II. He earned his Ph.D. in Physics at Brown University and went to work as an Engineer, Researcher Scientist, and Industrial Hygienist at such companies as Sylvania, P.R. Mallory, Duracell, and Gillette. He had a distinguished career co-authoring a number of patents and journal articles; and being honored by Duracell in their creation of the George Wallis Environmental Achievement Award to be given to employees who demonstrate superior environmental practices. Dr. Wallis enjoyed opera, classical music, attending concerts, playing the piano, hiking, skiing and reading. Dr. Wallis was the beloved husband of the late Laura Wallis. He is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Wallis of Lexington , son Peter Wallis and his wife Alane Harrington Wallis and their children Currin, Lili, Charlotte, and Laura, all of Concord, his sister Ilse Ross of East Setauket, New York, and nieces Linda Smith, Shirley Bryson, Judy Ross, and Pamela Ross. Arrangements: A memorial serive will be held at First Parish Church in Concord, MA on November 15, 2014 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made in his name to the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
