Father-in-law of Jane Abegg of Gloucester. Grandfather of Tyler Abegg, and Tyler, Nathaniel, and Caroline Brose. Gerald is also survived by stepsons Mel Whitney (Sarah Hobart) of Arcata, CA, and Scott Whitney (Jessica) of Bedford, NH, grandsons Ben, Amos, James, Gabriel, and Ethan Whitney, brother Art Abegg (Julie), Sister-in-law MaryJo Abegg, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by wife Mary (Ward) Abegg, son Patrick Abegg, brother Dan Abegg, and brothers-in-law James and Gerald. Professor of Science Education, Emeritus, Boston University; Graduate, Washington University in St. Louis, AB in Chemistry, MSE; University of Nebraska, PhD. Longtime scoutmaster of Troop 160 in Lexington, actively involved in scouting since childhood, distinguished international educator and world traveler who visited all seven continents. Visitation at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Rd. Lexington Thursday January 7 from 4pm to 8pm. Funeral Mass Friday January 8 at St. Brigid Church, 2001 Mass. Ave. Lexington at 11am.
