Gerald (Jerry) Daley age 74 of Somerville, formerly of Lexington passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of May 2, 2024, after a year and a half valiant battle with metastatic bladder cancer.

Jerry was born to the late Helen and John Daley and raised in Lexington. Jerry is predeceased by his parents and his daughter Linda O'Leary and survived by his sister Maureen, brother John, grandchildren Anthony O'Leary and Khileigh O'Leary, son in law Tim O'Leary and many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Growing up in Lexington, Jerry excelled in a variety of subjects such as athletics, music, language, and academics. His intelligence earned him a fully paid 4-year scholarship to Harvard University After two years of academia in Cambridge, Jerry decided to pursue other interests in Seattle Washington and partook in such colorful undertakings as cross-country skiing down Mount St Helena, white water rafting, and being part of the local music scene. Eventually, Jerry returned to the Boston area and was very involved with the local rock and blues circuit playing bass guitar in a variety of bands.

He then became known as a well-respected automotive parts specialist at a variety of high-end motor dealerships in the greater Boston area. He was well known for his work ethic, automotive knowledge, wit, humor, and opinion on any subject matter, be it of today's topics or some obscure factoid in ancient history. He was a man who had a deep love for family, friends, and animals. His generosity to others was legendary and was always willing to help those in need.

After retirement and post Covid, Jerry found great joy in being a playground recess and lunchroom monitor at an elementary school in Somerville. He felt that his involvement with young children to be one of the most rewarding jobs of his career. At the end of the school year the students presented Jerry with a two-volume book of appreciation for being their mentor.

Unfortunately, Jerry was stricken with a very serious form of metastatic bladder cancer that had initially spread to his brain in the fall of 2022. Ever the person with a strong will and determination to challenge the obstacles of life given to him, he decided to pursue various medical treatments under the excellent medical care at Mass General Hospital in Boston. The family would like to publicly thank the nurses and doctors and lab techs that treated Jerry for their excellent care and compassion.

A Celebration of Life for Jerry will be held at the home of Heather and John Daley, 11 Lane's Road. Essex MA on Thursday May 30 at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly Invited.
