Ghanteswara Rao Dasari of Lexington, MA, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, peacefully entered his eternal rest at home on May 4, 2021 at the age of 80.

Born on July 1, 1940 in Chitturpu, Andhra Pradesh, India to Subramanyam and Kamala Jaganmohini Dasari, he was the second of five siblings in a humble farming family that valued education. Upon the advice of his older brother, Bhavanarayana, who played a pivotal role in his formative years, Ghanteswara studied medicine at the Kakatiya Medical School, graduating in 1967. In 1968 he married Dr. Ammani, and they had two sons, Sridhar and Sriram.

After working in India for several years, Ghanteswara and Ammani immigrated to the U.S. where he practiced as a diagnostic radiologist for over 25 years in the VA system before retiring. He always provided gentle non-judgmental advice to everyone, and was an important resource for his family in India. In his spare time, Ghanteswara loved working in his garden for he was a farmer at heart. While his mutant tomatoes, massive squash, and infinite eggplants may not have won any beauty contests, he was constantly supplying delicious produce to all his friends and family.

He was a founding member of the Telugu Association of Greater Boston (TAGB).  His generosity was as large as his heart and his charitable contributions included temples, social causes and medical facilities in India.

Although he was a man of few words and simple pleasures, Rao, as his friends popularly knew him, had an adventurous soul, which gave him free reign during his retirement to explore the Australian outback, climb up countless Southeast Asian temples, and hike through the U.S. National Parks with his friends and family. He was also a loving son-in-law to the late Venkata Narsamamba and Satyanarayana Hanumara. Ghanteswara's kind and compassionate character resulted in him being a father to not only his two sons but also to his two nieces and his nephew, loving them all.

Ghanteswara is survived by his wife Ammani Dasari, his sons Sridhar H. Dasari and Sriram Dasari, his daughters-in-law Anitha S. Dasari and Varalaxmi S. Dasari, his grandson Arjun S. Dasari, his granddaughters Sonali S. Dasari and Tarini A. Dasari, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Venkata Seshu Ravi and Sairani Ravi, his nieces Srilakshmi M. Ravi and Madhuri Ravi, her son Xander A. McKay, his nephew Srikanth Ravi and his nephew's wife Krupa Ravi and their daughter Saanvi N. Ravi.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at 12 PM-1PM EST at the Bigelow Chapel, Mount Auburn Cemetery. Friends may join a Livestream of the service by connecting to the following link:
