H. Patricia Hanna (1930-2025)

Helen Patricia Hanna, 95, of Plymouth passed away peacefully on October 13th. Born in Dorchester to John and Helen Kincade, she lived in Wayland, Framingham and Lexington prior to settling into Laurelwood at the Pine Hills. She is survived by her nephews Richard Daly and wife Susan, Paul Hagerty and wife Kristin, Robert Hagerty and wife Priscilla, as well as her niece, Jacqueline Esquivel and husband Raul. Additionally, "Aunt Pat" as she was affectionately known, is survived by grandnephews Robert Daly, Jamie Hagerty, Jack Hagerty, grandnieces Christina Esquivel, Alyse Sullivan, Lauren Daly, Meredith Esquivel, Rosemary Hagerty and Alice Hagerty as well as great-grandnephews Jay, Will and Nate Daly, Charlie Sullivan and great-grandniece Maren Sullivan. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Harry Taylor and Ward Hanna, as well as her two sisters, Barbara Daly and Janet Hagerty.

After completing secretarial school, Patricia landed a job as the Executive Secretary to the President of Houghton Chemical Corporation. Seeing her potential, Houghton funded her pursuit of a college degree at night and fostered her ascendance to Senior Vice President for Administration and Finance. In gratitude and a desire to pay it forward, Patricia endowed the

H. Patricia Scholarship Fund at her alma mater, University College (now the College of Professional Studies), at Northeastern University to benefit undergraduate candidates for degrees in Business Administration and Engineering Technology. She served 22 years on the governing boards of the University including six years as Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees followed by an honorary role as Vice Chair Emeritus. In addition to her years of service at her alma mater, Patricia served on the Women's Council at the Pine Street Inn. In recognition of her dedication to Northeastern students and contributions to the community at large, the University conferred on her an honorary Doctorate in Public Service (1998) and awarded her both the Medallion Award (1999) and the first ever Pioneer Award (2018).

Patricia was a an avid and competitive Life Master bridge player who chaired a major national event in Boston for the American Contract Bridge Group. She was also a passionate supporter of the arts, especially theater and the symphony. She called them "food for the soul." In her professional life, Patricia wore many hats both literally and figuratively. She was well-known and admired for her stylish hat collection apropos for all occasions.

The family is grateful to the dedicated caregivers at Laurelwood for their incredible love and support during Patricia's later years, as well as to Beacon Hospice for their compassionate care in her final weeks.

The family invites friends to celebrate this strong and remarkable woman who was our beloved Aunt Pat on Saturday, November 8th at 11:00 am at Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Road, Lexington.
