Hossein Keramaty, of Lexington, died at home on September 24, 2019. He was 83.  He was the caring father of Maryam Keramaty of West Medford, and Jasmin Keramaty (married to Paul MacNeill) of Littleton.  He was a devoted grandfather to Owen and Callum MacNeill of Littleton. Reed of Acton.  Hossein's large family included many other siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews.  He is the former husband of Lynne (Stauffer) Keramaty of Lexington.

Hossein was born in Tehran, Iran to Zenolabadin and Iran Keramaty.   He had six siblings.  He grew up in Tehran in a house with a huge garden where he created many of his fondest childhood memories.  From an early age, he attracted and was always surrounded by people.  He loved riding his bicycle, tinkering with cars and making mischief with his many friends.

With little English fluency, he decided to come to the States to study. He attended Lowell Tech and received a  B.S. in mechanical engineering, and then from University of Massachusetts Lowell a M.S. in the same. Later he attended the mechanical engineering PhD program at University of Pennsylvania.

In his early work, he was employed at RCA in Marlboro, MA.  He moved back to Tehran, Iran in the 1970s, where he raised his family and was factory manager for Warner Lambert, Toshiba, and General Electric.

In 1978, Hossein's family was uprooted by the Iranian Revolution. His wife and two young children left the political strife to live in Virginia. Still in Iran as factory manager, Hossein oversaw manufacturing during the revolution. Upon his return to the States, the family settled in Virginia for four years.

In 1983, while job hunting in Boston, he contracted a paralyzing spinal meningitis. The family relocated to Lexington, MA. His long rehabilitation led to partial recovery. He reinvented himself as the owner of Main Street Travel, in Concord, later moving the business to his home.

Those who loved Hossein most, will remember his sense of humor, dynamic personality, incredible ability to relate to people, and a fierce will that enabled him to overcome the difficult hurdles life placed in his way.

A memorial celebration for friends and family to share their memories and stories of Hossein will be held at 3pm on Sunday September 29 at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Rd, Lexington.  Open calling hours will continue from 4-7pm.
