Obituary

James L. Baker of Lexington, spoiler of grandchildren, aficionado of practical jokes, collector of baseball caps, connoisseur of local diners and expert at outdoor naps while reading the newspaper, died peacefully on October 19, 2017. Husband of Barbara (Buscher) Baker. Father of Kathleen Baker and her husband Henry Moon of Weston, LeeAnn Baker of Arlington, Thomas J. Baker and his wife Linda of Burlington, and Erin Zarnecki and her husband Mark of Norfolk, VA. Jim is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Owen, Oliver and Violet Moon, Kayla, Emily, Melody and Sydney Baker and Elena and Joseph Zarnecki, and his nieces and nephews. While he loved nothing more than family and fun, he was also a dedicated, hard-hitting sports columnist at the Boston Herald and the Buffalo Courier-Express. Jim authored many books on sports figures, worked with Lex Media and cheered on local sports teams. Visiting hours will be 4:00 - 8:00 pm on Monday, October 23 at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Rd., Lexington. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Tuesday, October 24 at St. Brigid Church, 2001 Mass. Ave., Lexington. Family and friends are invited to all services. To celebrate Jim, raise a glass in his memory or make a donation to Friends for Matty at friendsformatty.org .  Interment is at Westview Cemetery, Lexington.
