COWAN, James Jones, III Born in Niagara Falls, NY. and resident of Lexington, died on the morning of Dec. 22, 2017. He is survived by his wife, Anneliese (Leonhard) Cowan of 60 years of marriage. He was the beloved father of Christina (Cowan) Sym and her husband John of Lexington and Chris Cowansage and his wife Melissa of Washington, D.C. He is also survived by two grandchildren in Lexington, Kelsey and Tyler, and three in California, Kiriana, Corydon, and Cadran. Jim Cowan devoted his 84 years, not only to his close-knit family, but also to the pursuit of scientific breakthroughs in the physics of optics. His specialization was holography, and his career included positions at NASA , Huntsville, AL; Oak Ridge, TN; Boris Kidric Institute of Nuclear Sciences, Belgrade, Serbia; and the Polaroid Corporation, Cambridge, MA.

A Memorial Service will be held March 17th, 2018 at Pilgrim Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to a charity of your choice .
