Obituary

DeSalvo, James Paul, 69, of Ogunquit, ME, formerly of Lexington, MA, passed away at Brigham and Women's Hospital on January 29, 2014 after a long battle with Mesothelioma.

Born on November 17, 1944 in Winchester, MA, Jim was the son of the late James P. DeSalvo and Mary Mercadante DeSalvo of Lexington, MA. The eldest of two children, Jim grew up in Lexington, graduating from Lexington High School in 1962. Jim is survived by his devoted partner Cynthia Hoiriis, six children, Leanne, James, Joseph, Daniel, Reneé and Natalie, one son-in-law, Bill Preston, six grandchildren, Hollie, Billy, Salina, Joseph, Emily and Ava, and one great-grandchild, Talan. He also leaves behind his brother David DeSalvo, sister-in-law Mary Park DeSalvo, two nephews Andrew and Richard, and Cindy's two sons Mark and Paul, and their families.



Jim was a member of Pipefitters Local 537 in Boston, and retired from pipefitting in 2005. He and Cindy spent time traveling to China, Italy, Alaska, Hawaii, and many U.S. states. Previously he was a master builder of Harley Davidson motorcycles, and a champion drag racer. He was an avid supporter of the Cancer Foundation and other charitable organizations.



A funeral service will be held Sat. Feb. 1 at the Church of Our Redeemer, 6 Meriam St. in Lexington at 10am. Interment to follow at Westview Cemetery in Lexington. Visiting hours Friday at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Rd. Lexington from 4pm to 8pm. Donations in his memory may be made to The American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
