James J. Redmond Sr.

It is with deep sadness and grateful hearts that we announce the passing of James J. Redmond Sr., 90, of Lexington, Massachusetts, who passed away peacefully at home on August 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Jim was the beloved husband of the late Mary Grace Redmond. He was a devoted father to James J. Redmond Jr. (Wife Jennine Redmond), Jeannie M. Redmond (Life partner James M. McLaughlin), and Joanne M. Mello (Husband William P. Mello). He was a proud and loving grandfather to Megan L. Petrucelli, Jessica Sullivan, William P. Mello Jr., Gina Robinson, Anthony Mello, Maria Redmond, Sienna Redmond, James G. Redmond, and Talia Redmond, and a cherished great-grandfather to 16 great-grandchildren.

For 42 years, Jim proudly served the Lexington Fire Department, dedicating his life to protecting and serving his community. He was known as the person who could fix just about anything and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Whether it was repairing something broken, offering advice, or simply showing up when someone needed him, he never hesitated to help solve a problem. Jim's quick wit, playful sense of humor, and warm smile had a way of brightening even the toughest days. He found happiness in life's simple pleasures—tinkering in a workshop, taking drives to the ocean, fishing, searching flea markets for hidden treasures, and meeting family and friends for breakfast. In his later years, one of his greatest daily joys was sharing his morning coffee and donuts with his German Shepard companions, Diesel and Axel, whose visits became a treasured part of his routine.

Above all, Jim was a devoted family man whose greatest pride was the family he and Mary built together. His legacy of service, kindness, craftsmanship, laughter, and unconditional love will live on through the countless lives he touched and the generations that follow him.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jim's life during visiting hours on Thursday, August 6, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Douglass Funeral Home, Lexington, Massachusetts. Funeral services will be private with interment at Westview Cemetery, Lexington.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the Lexington Firefighter Relief Association at 45 Bedford St., Lexington, MA 02420, in honor of Jim's 42 years of dedicated service to the community.

He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in our hearts.
