Taylor, Janet E. of Lexington, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2023. Beloved daughter of the late Warren Taylor and Florence (Mercer) Taylor. Cherished partner of the late Pamela Gunnell. Surviving family include several close cousins, many nieces, and nephews, along with a multitude of friends who will all miss her dearly.
Jan graduated Malden High School in 1958; then pursued her undergraduate degree in education from the University of Massachusetts (1963) and Master's degree from Purdue. She was a public school English teacher and Guidance Counselor in Marblehead and Harvard. She loved working with students and seeing them reach their potential. Janet was an avid skier, sailor, and world traveler. An active member of the Appalachian Mountain Club, she organized and led many trips locally and internationally. Her favorite memory was her visit to Vietnam. Janet was the founder of RALLY, a support and social network for older lesbian women in the greater Boston community. She was known for her generosity, compassion, and sense of adventure. A lifelong learner, she enjoyed taking adult classes through UMass Boston and other community organizations.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday February 20 th at the First Parish in Lexington at 11am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend this celebration of life and reception to follow. Private interment at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the First Parish in Lexington, 7 Harrington Rd. Lexington, MA 02421, or the Appalachian Mountain Club, 10 City Square, Boston, MA 02129.
