Jay William Buchta passed away unexpectedly on May 12, 2018, ten days before his 59th

birthday. Jay is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Laurie (Nevins) Buchta , his daughter

Emma B. Buchta , 19 , his son J. William (Will) Buchta, 15, and his mother, Lora Lee Buchta, all

of Lexington, MA; his brothers and their spouses, Todd K. Buchta (Susan Gray) of Rockford, MI,

and Mark A. Buchta (Caroline) of North Andover, MA; his brother-in-law and wife, Mike and Toni

Nevins of Cincinnati, OH and sister-in-law and husband Debbie (Nevins) and J. Kevin

Edmundson of Austin, TX; nieces and nephews: Koerner D. Gray-Buchta, Asa J. Gray-Buchta,

John F. Buchta, Katrina E. Buchta, Hayley K. Nevins, Gregory M. Nevins, James Kalvin (Kal)

Edmundson, and Bo D. Edmundson, as well as several cousins. Jay was recently predeceased

by his father, John C. Buchta.

Jay was born in Syracuse, NY in 1959. Throughout his youth, Jay enjoyed an athletic career

playing hockey, football, and lacrosse. He graduated from Liverpool High School in 1977 where

he served as President of the Student Council. Jay earned a B.A. in Government from St.

Lawrence University in 1981 and was a proud member of Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity.

Jay had a successful 35-year career selling technology solutions to large enterprises. Starting in

library technology sales in the mid-1980's, Jay then worked for Wang, IBM, and for 18 years at

Oracle Corporation in sales and sales management. He joined Ernst & Young (EY) in 2016 in

global business technology and consulting.

Jay firmly believed in "doing good and doing well." Through his involvement with Trinity Church

Boston and social justice advocacy, he supported organizations such as InnerCity Weightlifting

and College Behind Bars. With countless acts of charity and compassion for individuals he met,

Jay improved the lives of many with his spirit, encouragement, mentorship, and zest for living.

Jay spread his enthusiasm for exploration and discovery from early travels to Kenya and

Pamplona, Spain (for the running of the bulls) and family travel to Mongolia, France, and New

Zealand. He was a voracious reader, particularly of American and World history, and was a

member of the Boston Athenaeum. Along with a deep fondness for his friends past and

present, Jay took pleasure and pride in the athletic pursuits of his children, Emma in lacrosse

and field hockey, and Will carrying on the hockey goalie legacy.

Services: Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 17 from 5-8 pm at Douglass Funeral

Home, Lexington, MA. A funeral service in Jay's honor will be held on Friday, May 18 at 2:00

pm at Trinity Church Boston with a reception to follow at the church. Burial will be private.
