Obituary

Joan Reddy, the music director at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Bedford and a long-time resident of Lexington, where she taught piano to three generations of students, died peacefully on June 3rd at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA. She was eighty years old.

Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Ms. Reddy received her undergraduate degree in music and piano study at Western Michigan University.

She lived an active and independent life as a musician, teacher, performer, composer, mother, grandmother, friend, writer, gardener, dog breeder, cook and entertainer, avid reader and poetry lover, lifelong student, traveler, and officer of many organizations.

Her most important work was in classrooms, piano ?studios, and churches, where she instilled the love of music in adults and children throughout the Boston area. She considered it a source of great joy to make music alone and with others and continued to do so until her final days.

Four children survive her from her first marriage to Robert C. Ryan: Kevin Ryan, Conall Ryan, Heather Ryan, and Deirdre Ryan; as well as their children Brittany Ryan, Caroline Ryan, Ali Ryan, Kenneth Ryan-Rivas, Emilio Ryan Esposito, Rose Johnson, Michael Johnson, Kerry Johnson, and Niamh Ryan.

Four stepchildren survive her from her second marriage to John M. Reddy: Louisa Reddy, Charles Reddy, Diana Reddy-Clark, and John Reddy; as well as their children Conner Clark, Fiona Clark, Michael Reddy, Christina Kamala Reddy, and Charles Kamala Reddy.

Services will be held at St. Paul's Church, 100 Pine Hill Road, in Bedford, on Monday, June 9th, at 10:30a. All are welcome. A reception will follow the service. Burial will be private.
