Defandorf, John P., formerly of Lexington, MA, at the age of 92.

John grew up in Whitefish Bay, WI, before earning a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. This spring marked the 70th anniversary of his graduation.
In the late 1950s he settled in the Boston area, where he met his wife, Joyce Larkin. The two met on a double date, each with someone else, and were so enamored of each other that they ended up getting married, as did the other two people on the date. John and Joyce were married for 61 years, until her death in 2023.
They gave each of their three sons — Chuck, Jack, and Bob — good educations, and instilled in them the importance of learning.
John made a career of selling semiconductor chips at a time when the industry was just beginning to bloom. He began his career at Sylvania, then moved to smaller companies in Lowell, Salem, and Beverly MA. To be closer to those jobs, he moved his family from Lexington to Lynnfield in 1976, before eventually retiring to Lexington 25 years later.
In 1979 the family bought an old farm house in Lynnfield and spent the summer fixing it up. Excited by that experience, Chuck built a career as a general contractor in Montana. Bob became a successful teacher, and Jack an administrator at MIT. Bob's son Max, the only grandchild in the family, visited with his grandparents weekly as a child, playing board games, eating Sunday dinners, and swimming at the Old Res in Lexington.
In addition to education, John gave his sons an appreciation of music, travel, sports, homebuilding, and history. He played the trombone for fun, and he sang in barbershop quartets when he was young. John and Joyce traveled far and wide, especially after his retirement. They visited not only Jack in New Orleans and Chuck in Montana, but also California, Canada, England, France, Switzerland, Italy, and Germany. For decades, they regularly vacationed on Cape Cod.
John had a deep respect for the Constitution and the democratic principles it contains. His patriotism included an appreciation of the music of Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie, and the Weavers For several years during his retirement, he worked part-time at the Minuteman National Park store.
John spent his last years living in Watertown Square, where in the warmer months he enjoyed watching birds along the Charles River.
He leaves a sister, Mrs. Virginia Williams, of Brookfield, WI, along with his sons, grandson, and Bob's partner, Amy Agigian.
