John M. Lucente, Sr. of Lexington, MA

John M. Lucente, Sr., age 87, of Lexington, MA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 15, 1936, to the late Santo and Adeline Lucente, John was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose life was defined by his dedication to family, his community, and his unwavering sense of humor.

John is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Sondra (Rosnov) Lucente, and their nine children: Gail Derfus of Mesa, AZ; John Lucente, Jr. of Townsend, MA; Santo Lucente of Billerica, MA; Kim Lucente of Billerica, MA; Richard Lucente-Kirkpatrick of Springfield, NH; Deanna Campbell of Lexington, MA; Dean Lucente of Phoenix, AZ; Daniel Lucente of Alpharetta, GA; and Douglas Lucente of Lexington, MA. He will be dearly missed by his many loving sons- and daughters-in-law, his 19 grandchildren, and his 14 great-grandchildren. John is also survived by his brother Richard Lucente of Mashpee, MA, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Frank Lucente of Tolland, CT; his brother George Lucente of Chelmsford, MA; and his sister, Sr. Rose Marie Lucente of Allegheny, NY.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, John brought the same sense of commitment and work ethic to his civilian life. As a road contractor, he took pride in building many of the roads in Lexington and the surrounding areas through his work at Savioli and Lucente of Lexington. Later in life, he remained deeply involved in his community through his work on commercial building projects in Lexington and Bedford.

John's contributions extended far beyond his professional life. He was a dedicated community member, especially active in youth sports and the Lexington Lions Club, where he was a life member since 1968. His involvement in the club continued right up to his final days, demonstrating his enduring passion for service. In 2014, he was honored with the prestigious White Tricorne Hat Award for his outstanding service to the town of Lexington, a recognition that reflected his lifelong commitment to giving back.

John was a man of warmth and humor, beloved by all who knew him. His family and lifelong friends meant everything to him, and his presence brought joy and laughter into every room. To know John was to love him.

Funeral services will be held from the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Rd., Lexington, on Wednesday, September 11th, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Brigid Church, Lexington, at 11:00 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lexington Lions Club, PO Box 71, Lexington, MA 02420 to fund a tree to be planted in John's memory, with any additional proceeds going to the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Foundation.
