Obituary

TENPAS, Dr. John H. 71, of Arlington, formerly of Lexington, passed away in his wife's loving arms, on May 4th. He was born in Oregon, son of Henry TenPas and Lorraine (Anderson) TenPas. Graduated with a degree in Pharmacy from Oregon State University; member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. He worked as a pharmacist while he received his M.D. from the University of Washington School of Medicine. John was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his Harvard Internship and Residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and was board certified in Internal Medicine. John went on to the public health service at the National Institutes of Health completing a fellowship in hematology. Following this, he was an Emergency Room Director in a Maryland Hospital. Then completed an ophthalmology residency at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. He received his board certification in ophthalmology, spent many years dedicated to his patients in private practice in ophthalmology, finishing his career at Lahey Clinic and retired in 2011. John was a member of the Harvard Medical Alumni Association and the Massachusetts Medical Society. From a young age he had a passion for medicine and was a lifelong voracious reader. John and his wife traveled the world over many times in their 30 years together. As an avid saltwater fly fisherman John, and Mariclare, were fortunate to travel to nearly all of the prime fly fishing destinations in the world. He was awarded a world angling record from the International Game Fish Association in the Midway Islands in 2001. He was happiest spending time with family and received great joy attending his children's and grandchildren's activities and sporting events. Those who knew him best will miss his dedication to the one's he loved, his incredible sense of humor, and quick wit. He will be deeply missed.

Loving husband of Mariclare (Hughes) TenPas. Father of Michelle Sidel and her husband Ted of Lexington, Daniel TenPas and his wife Puja of Lexington. Brother of William, D.M.D. of Portland, OR, Lyn (TenPas) McNeff of Hawaii, Sue (TenPas) Anderson of Portland, OR, Thomas of Hawaii, and Libby TenPas Hunter of Corvallis, OR. John is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Nate, Chad, and Kira. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
