Watson, John T., 92, died April 2, 2012 in Lexington, MA. Born on March 19, 1920 in Fort Worth, TX, he graduated from the University of Maine in Orono in 1942 with a degree in Physics. He lived in Wellesley, MA, and for the last 42 years in Lexington and Brewster, MA. He was employed as an Optical Systems Engineer at Bausch and Lomb and at Boston University Optical Research Laboratory, which became Itek Corporation, where he worked for 33 years on spy satelite reconnaissance during the Cold War, including the once-classified Corona Project. He was a member of the Optical Society of America. During his retirement he spent many hours devising methods to streamline and increase the speed of boats' hulls and developing a simple proof for Fermat's Last Theorem. An avid bridge player, he competed in duplicate tournaments and also taught bridge to high school students. He is survived by his wife, Sue Watson of Lexington, and by his six children and four stepchildren: Richard Watson and his wife Ginny of Isle of Palms, SC; Jeffrey Watson and his wife Diane of Hull, MA; Joanne Singh and her husband Pradeep of Berea, KY; Deborah Garofano and her husband Ken of Ft. Meyers, FL; James Watson and his wife Teresa of Sutton, MA; John Watson of Bellingham, MA; AnNett Silva of Winchester, MA; Georgette Silva and her wife Camilla Lindan of Mill, CA; Richard Silva and his wife Jennifer of Cleveland, OH; and William Silva and his wife Anna Crawford of West Hartford, CT. He also leaves 16 grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. Interment will be in a family plot at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor, ME at a later date.
