Obituary

WEERTS, Joseph A. of Lexington March 14, 2017. Joseph Alfred Weerts was born September 17, 1918 in Gulpen in the providence of Limburg, the Netherlands. The son of the late Nicolaas and Marie Weerts. As a teenager he surreptitiously joined The Royal Dutch Marines and spent 17 years in service during World War 2. He immigrated to the United States in the 1950's and worked for Weyerhaeuser Company which manufactured wood and cellulose fiber products. He followed the bootstrap American Dream progressing from sweeping floors in the wood mills to becoming a regional salesman for them. He then became Manager of Cooperative Reserve Supply in Cambridge. In his later years he made beautiful furniture and turned many wooden vessels. He contributed his knowledge as a member of the Lexington  Arts and Crafts where he spent many hours. He is survived by his wife Marjorie (Dean) who was his sun, moon and stars and his wonderful children Wendy Pizzi, Peter Tillotson, Elise Weerts, Paula Harrington, his dear caregiver Ronelle Claxton, his grandchildren Christopher Pizzi, Emily Tillotson, Addison Cropper, Nicolaas Harrington, Reid Harrington and many very good friends. He was predeceased by his first wife Gwen, son Neil Tillotson and his extra special grandson, Tim Pizzi. A celebration of his life will be held in July at a time to be announced.
