Judith Alice Smith, age 89, of Burlington, MA, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, after
a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born in Walpole, MA, on November 12,
1935 to Alice Idella (Mockler) Corey and Cecil Ray Corey, the youngest of nine. She met her husband, Donald Eugene Smith, in
1957 while he was working as a summer camp counselor in Canaan, NH, and they soon married in the same town.
Judy lived a life full of grace, strength, and devotion to her family. She was a beloved mother
of five, a cherished grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. She was always bursting with joy whenever family was near. Her
warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit touched everyone who had the privilege to know her.
Judy was fiercely proud of her children and her New England heritage, especially
Massachusetts, which in her humble opinion was superior to most any other state in the Union.
Judy imbued in her family a great love of nature and adventure, leading by example taking long
walks along the beaches of Cape Anne, biking on Nantucket, taking vigorous hikes in the
mountains of New Hampshire, downhill skiing in the Green and White mountains into her
eighties, sailing the coast of New England and sailboat racing out of Marblehead, MA.
She was also an avid gardener and lover of fine arts and music, and a long-time member of the
Museum of Fine Arts and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. A trend setter in fashion, with
exquisite style and taste, she was ahead of her times in many ways.
Judy is survived by her daughter Pamela and husband Paul Grandmaison of Walpole, NH,
daughter Audrey and husband Dwight Barnes of Deerfield, NH, son Geoffrey and wife Karen of
Stony Brook, NY, son Brian and wife Sheila of Mattapoisett, MA, and daughter-in-law, Deborah
Smith of Leominster, MA. She also leaves behind ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her husband Donald Smith, son D.Gregory Smith, as well as five sisters and three brothers.
Judy will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends and will forever be in our hearts.
Calling hours will be at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Road, Lexington, MA on
Friday August 15, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Saturday,
August 16, 2025 at 10:00 am at the Douglass Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, you may wish to
make a donation in Judy's name to your local Public Television Station, the Alzheimer's Association or your favorite charity.
