Kathlene M. McGrail of Lexington, MA passed away at home on December 5th, 2025. Kathlene is survived by her husband of 36 years, Howard Deahr, her children Max and Charlotte, and her many siblings: Joe, Bill, Dennis, Brian, Christine, and Brendan.

Kathlene was the daughter of William and Claire McGrail and grew up in Leicester, MA where she was a scholar, athlete and lifeguard. She was the adored big sister to her five brothers and one sister. When her batch of younger siblings were little, her fun loving self could easily be found playing board games, playing catch in the yard, ice skating, or sledding in the snow. She is the one who taught them all how to hug and say "I love you."

She shared a special relationship with her only sister, the pair known as Leenie and Teenie. They loved the ocean and tearing up the coast in Kathlene's tiny orange MG. Their many adventures led to the discovery of Camden, Maine, which remained one of Kathlene's favorite places.

Kathlene went on to receive her bachelor's degree in biology from Regis College and her master's degree in public health from Boston University, but Kathlene's proudest accomplishment in life was being the mother of Max and Charlotte. She gave up her career to raise them with kindness and endless love; she considered them her greatest joy.

At home, she found happiness in cooking and discovering new recipes. Admired as the family paragon of elegance and refinement, she knew well how to entertain. Her gorgeous picnics at Tanglewood and her Winter Solstice parties were legendary.

Kathlene lived a life full of endless adventure and curiosity. She loved traveling and exploring new places, always eager for an adventure- whether it was with close friends or with family by her side. Over the years, she also shared her life with many golden retrievers, each one bringing her tremendous joy and happiness.

Those who knew Kathlene describe her as endlessly giving and kind, someone who offered her whole heart to everyone in her life. She was loving, generous, and genuine.

Her warmth, humor and generous spirit will be remembered and cherished always.

A wake is scheduled from 4-7pm on December 18th at Douglass Funeral home in Lexington, MA. A celebration of life will be held in the Spring of 2026. Check this site for future announcement.
