Dr. Lalith Rohan Tissera ("Rohan"), husband of Chitra Tissera, with whom he shared 32 years of marriage and the loving father of Kristin Tissera, of Lexington MA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at Lahey Hospital.

Born in Sri Lanka, he was the son of Cyril Tissera and Irene Fernando. He was preceded in death by his brother Prasad Tissera and survived by his sisters, Dr. Lalani Tissera and Dr. Nimali Tissera. He will be greatly missed by his nephews Vimuth Fernando, Dr. Hasith Fernando, Manilka Ratnayake, Thavisha Ratnayake, and Lakmal Tissera, his nieces Ridmi Ratnayake and Menik Tissera, his brothers-in-law, Dr. Spelman Fernando and Dr. Rohan Ratnayake, his mother-in-law, Wiji Alagaratnam, sister-in-law, Nira Manoharan, brother-in-law Rajah Manoharan and nephew Vickram Manoharan. Though Rohan had a smaller family by blood, he had many friends who he considered as close as family, who will also miss him dearly.

Rohan grew up in Sri Lanka and moved to Cuba to attend medical school at Universidad Superior de Ciencias Medicas and then moved to Boston. Here, he was an intern at Tufts Medical Center, after which he completed his residency at Yale School of Medicine. Rohan was a practicing psychiatrist in the Greater Boston Area for over 30 years. He loved his patients, many of whom he had been treating for the entirety of his career.

Rohan was an adventurer, he traveled to over 64 countries in his lifetime, collecting stories and friends as he went. Throughout his travels, Rohan made connections with everyone he met, leaving behind good friends especially in Sri Lanka, Cuba, Canada, and across the United States.

A longtime Lexington resident, Rohan loved his neighborhood and exploring the town's many walking trails. He was an avid gardener harvesting yearly batches of beans, potatoes, and more. Rohan was a lover of nature, who was happiest on a sunny day taking a walk with his wife, daughter, and their family dog.

Rohan was passionate about helping others, whether patients, friends, or family members. Advice on mental health was not all that he was known for - his generosity and selflessness will be remembered forever.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday January 2nd at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Road, Lexington, MA from 1:30pm to 3:30pm.
