Obituary

Lillian Mae Carlson of Bedford died on November 5, her 101st birthday.  Lillian was the daughter of Frank Lee Preston and Sarah Miller Preston.  She is survived by a daughter, Marsha Carlson Gette and her husband, William of Newburyport, MA; a granddaughter, Melissa Hawkins, and her husband, Michael of Lexington; a grandson, Christopher Gette, and his wife, Rebecca Schwer of Amesbury; and five great granddaughters, Annika, Emily, and Allie Hawkins, and Viola and Amelia Gette.  Lillian was predeceased by her husband, Oscar Werner Carlson, in 2001 and her brother, Lee Preston, during service in World War II.

Lillian and Oscar moved to Lexington in 1950.  From 1950 to 1980, she designed the interiors for more than 130 homes built by her husband in the Lexington area.  At various times during her 69 years in Lexington, Lillian was involved in many activities including the American Red Cross, Girl Scouts, Symmes Hospital Auxiliary, Hancock and Follen churches, Lexington Field and Garden Club, and Belfry Club.  Lillian was an avid golfer and a member of the Lexington Golf Club for more than 60 years.  She enjoyed playing bridge, reading, traveling, and being with family and friends.  Lillian lived at Carleton-Willard Village in Bedford for the last few years where she enjoyed many new activities and exceptional care.

Lillian will be remembered for her loving support of husband, family, and friends.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Lillian's memory can be made to the charity of your choice.  Her family will hold a private service in celebration of her remarkable life.
